We are Lynton and Di Pratt owner/operators of Lyncoranne Angus -'Tumbeelluwa' (Aboriginal word meaning Evergreen), a Beef Production and Agroforestry enterprise. In 1992 we established our Lyncoranne Angus and Brangus cross (X) commercial herds.
After many years working in radio/television, marketing, retail/sales, finance and building/interior design industries, we realised it was time for a radical lifestyle rethink, which led us to the North Coast’s scenic rural district of Mummulgum as ‘tree changers’.
The decision to breed Angus and Brangus herds came about from our meticulous scrutiny of Angus and Brangus Society information, industry feedback, the breed’s increased market demand and progeny price resilience; increased efficiency of production, their adaptability to our environment and the general optimism regarding breeding such cattle.
We decided very early in our farming careers to steer away from the traditional farming methods, focusing our energies on implementing the valuable knowledge we attained from completing our TAFE 'Advanced Diploma's of Agriculture and Agibusiness', 'UNE Feeder Steer School', ‘Agricultural Information Monitoring Services’ (AIMS), ‘Master Tree Grower’, TAFE 'Biological Farming' , 'Holistic Grazing Management' courses and attending numerous industry workshops.
Livestock genetic selection and Estimated Breeding Values (EBV’s) are our passions. Our Lyncoranne Angus breeding program’s genetic progress is an evolving entity, accelerated by sourcing and breeding the very best genetics and livestock available for our core cowherd and herd sires. During 2008, we decided to venture into the stud game, satisfied that our commercial background would be an added bonus.
After several years of trading our weaners using the traditional saleyard methods, we calculated the move to value add, finish and market our feeder weaners directly into the butcher markets and sell our joined heifers, yearlings and 2 year old bulls directly to producers via paddock sales.
Our primary objective at Lyncoranne Angus is to successfully produce premium products, whether it be livestock or timber with minimal impact (footprint) on our land's ecosystems, our native forest and our environment in general.
