The Lyncoranne Angus/Ultrablack core-breeding herd consists of quiet, moderately framed cows and maiden heifers, which have the ability to store body fat necessary for tough environmental conditions. 

 

​Angus Group Breedplan Estimated Breeding Values (EBV's) are utilised to manage and modify the body composition of our cowherd, and the improvement of carcase yield and marbling performance in our weaner slaughter animals. From our experience, we believe rib and rump fat, intramuscular fat (IMF) and eye muscle area (EMQA) are associated with changes in cow body composition.

Selection pressure on our Angus and Ultrablack (Brangus/Angus X) females in the areas of fertility, calving ease, structural soundness/conformation, constitution/'doing ability', milk and temperament is fundamental to our stud and commercial breeding programs. Such a balance of traits, in conjunction with performance data is crucial to our female selection process.

Lyncoranne Angus and Ultrablacks (Brangus/Angus X) maiden heifers are evaluated for future breeding potential using the criteria of age, pelvic measurement, weight, frame score, structural soundness, conformation, temperament and their EVB genetic progress. Additionally, all our heifers are pregnancy tested after joining and are bred to 'calve down' unassisted on a yearly basis.

 

We believe an efficient, low cost, high performing, fertile female is the sum of a very good cattle herd. By concentrating on moderate frame score females, we are maintaining an extremely high fertility performance in our breeding herd.
